Julian Speroni: Sam Allardyce may have said Manuel Almunia had nothing to do but pick the ball out of his net twice, but the same can be said of Speroni. One easy Kevin Nolan header aside, I don't recall any other stops he had to make. As for the goals, he could do nothing with either. Also played a big part in the Eagles' opener. 7

Jonathan Parr: Starting at right-back, West Ham targeted him and he looked shaky at times but more often then not he had the pace and perseverance to recover. Didn't get forward as much as he did against Brighton. Expect Nathaniel Clyne to return to his regular spot after the international break. 7

Paddy McCarthy: As ever, McCarthy led from the back and he and Anthony Gardner did a good job of keeping Carlton Cole quiet and the floating Kevin Nolan frustrated. Did a good job of captaining as well on the few occasions the match threatened to boil over. 8

Anthony Gardner: Recalled ahead of Aleksandar Tunchev presumably so his height would deal with the inevitable bombardment of high balls into the box. For 90 per cent of the time, it helped, but he lost Cole for the first goal and could have been closer to Carew for the second. He still oozes class though and is an accomplished defender at this level. 8

Dean Moxey: A relatively quiet day for the usually marauding left-back. Defensively, he was rarely beaten but, like Parr, he did not get the chance to attack as much as he would usually like to. 7

David Wright: Many thought Wright would make way for Alex Marrow as soon as the former Blackburn Rovers man was fit, but Wright has done more than enough to make the defensive midfield spot his own and isn't going anywhere at the minute. It was another good performance and his reading of the game is unparalleled. 9

Mile Jedinak: Improving with every game but he would have been disappointed with some of his passes on Saturday which were over hit. Had a similar problem with his free kicks. 7

Jonathan Williams: It really is hard to believe he is only 17. The Welsh wonder was up against a man almost twice his size in Papa Bouba Diop but wasn't overawed and tried to put himself about. His touch to lay on Ambrose's goal showed composure and class and he has most of Selhurst drooling with how good he can be. 8

Darren Ambrose: Recalled to the side and he has found his scoring boots again with his second goal in two games. It was a typical Ambrose finish and he looked more like his old self, drifting around the pitch and putting in a shift, tracking back most of the time. 8

Wilfried Zaha: Struggled to make an impact in the first half as he was well marshalled by George McCartney but exploded into life after the break to set up Murray's goal. He has improved his tackling no end and contributed heavily in defence. Sadly, one lapse in concentration led to West Ham's first goal. I am amazed though he is not in the England U21 squad. 8

Glenn Murray: Had to play a lone furrow up front at times but did it without fuss. His excellent header led to the first goal and he showed composure and accuracy to score the second from the edge of the box. He could well be the capture of the summer if he carries on as he is. 9

Subs:

Sean Scannell (Williams, 66): Given a rest having started every league game before Saturday. Did well coming off the bench and put pressure on West Ham. 6

Peter Ramage (Ambrose, 70): Brought on to shore up Palace's defence but couldn't prevent an equaliser. 6

Jermaine Easter (Zaha, 84 ) Almost won it in injury time with a speculative volley. 6

Not used: Price, Tunchev
