By Councillor Suzanne Grocott, Merton Council shadow spokesman for finance (Conservative, Dundonald ward)

Good news for bus users who will now save precious seconds travelling between Sir Cyril Black Way and Wimbledon Bridge House.

For the poor beleaguered residents of Dundonald ward and any other car driver who has the misfortune to need to drive through Wimbledon via the one-way system, you may not be quite so lucky.

The scrutiny committee voted last week voted to uphold the decision to replace the bus lane on Hartfield Road.

Yes, the golden goose of bus lanes which raked in around £250,000 per annum, is back.

It seems all it takes is a quick unrecorded conversation with officers for Cllr Judge to sign off on the £25,000 needed to replace the signs and markings.

So what was the reason that the bus lane has to be reinstated immediately rather than waiting for the rest of the Wimbledon roadworks to be completed?

It seems that it was nothing more than Cllr. Judge disliking the previous Conservative decision to remove the bus lane and that as he is also a politician, he can make political decisions too.

But don't worry, you do have the assurances of a representative of Peter Brett Associates that, as long as the volume of traffic has not increased since 2005, your journey should not be affected.

Also, please make sure that you stay in the right hand lane so you don't get fined.

You have been warned!
