By Matthew Marks; Cavendish Road, Wimbledon

Congratulations to Coun Suzanne Grocott for her brazen display of hypocrisy in criticising politicians while behaving just like the worst kind of politician herself.

By using weasel words such as "lucky" and "misfortune" she tries to portray the reinstatement of the bus lane in Hartfield Road, Wimbledon, as some sort of tax on the poor hapless motorist.

It has nothing to do with luck, Cllr Grocott: if you don't want to get fined, don't drive in a bus lane.

She even explains how simple it is to avoid the fine, for those apparenly too dim to remember what a bus lane is since passing their driving test.

If "precious seconds" saved by bus users are unimportant enough to be dismissed with sarcasm, she shouldn't be acting as an apologist for the arrogant minority of motorists who think they are above the law and conseqently get fined for trying to save those "precious seconds" too.

She can't have it both ways.

And while we're about it, she also tries to have her cake and eat it by revealing the cost of re-instatement when her own administration was also prepared to spend money removing the bus lane in the first place!

How much did that cost then?

This letter really does look like a desperate attempt to score political points at the expense of all credibility.

If there are enough selfish motorists out there to raise £250k a year by putting themselves in front of those who use much more space - and energy-efficient methods of transport (including cyclists) then they have themselves to blame and nobody else, and I welcome the subsidy to my council tax which results.

May the goose return as soon as possible and continue to lay those golden eggs until people learn to obey the rules of the road.
