Screen legend June Whitfield is set to hand out the prizes at a photo competition celebrating the work of volunteers.

The actress and Wimbledon resident, famous for roles in Terry and June and Absolutely Fabulous, will present awards in the contest organised by charity Volunteer Centre Merton (VCM).

VCM is challenging budding David Baileys to send in their best snaps of volunteering.

The competition closes on November 30, with winners set to be announced in January.

Prizes – donated by sponsors Centre Court Shopping Centre and the Sony Centre – include a camera, printer and digital photo frame.

The competition organiser, Phillip Barrow, said the special guest would host the prize-giving weeks after returning to television screens in a series of Absolutely Fabulous Christmas specials.

He said: “We’re absolutely delighted June Whitfield is going to present the prizes.

“This is the biggest promotion VCM has undertaken in recent years and we’re determined to put the spotlight on Merton’s volunteers and encourage others to get involved.”
