A mother has been left devastated after her daughter’s roadside memorial was stolen, the tenth time it has been targeted by thieves.

Jean Poulton, 51, from Stoneleigh, regularly visited her daughter's memorial, at Long Grove Road in Epsom, to leave lanterns, photographs, cards and flowers in memory of her daughter, Charlotte Poulton, who died from a head injury after hitting her head on the pavement there on July 18, 2010.

The 29-year-old art student was found unconscious with bruising to her left jaw, lips, neck, collar bone, arms and legs.

Ms Poulton, who filed a complaint with the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) in August, is convinced her daughter was the victim of an assault which has not been thoroughly investigated as no one has ever been charged.

The memorial has been targeted on ten occasions by thieves who have stolen Charlotte’s photograph, lanterns and flowers.

Ms Poulton said: "Within two months of her death the lanterns had been stolen.

"Earlier this year I bought a bunch of flowers and within three days there was only one left.

"Now the whole lot has gone."

Fed up with vandals Ms Poulton secured the items with a metal chain, but was horrified to return last Tuesday, October 11, to find someone had completely removed the memorial.

Epsom and Ewell Park Rangers and the Surrey Highways Department confirmed their teams had not removed the memorial leading Ms Poulton to believe it was thieves.

She said: "I went round there with two bunches of flowers and as I pulled up to the road where Charlotte’s memorial would be and it was gone.

"Everything had been removed like Charlotte had never been there.

"They would have had to use bolt cutters.

"I just wish people would leave her in peace."
