A 20-year-old man was arrested last Thursday following a series of thefts from leisure centres around the borough.
A thief is believed to have posed as a member of staff and broken into lockers in Tooting, Balham, Putney and Latchmere leisure centres.
A total of 24 burglaries were carried out over a period of several months, with bags, money and mobile phones being stolen.
Tooting Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT) launched an investigation after reports of thefts at Tooting Leisure Centre, Greaves Place, and arrested a man in Woodford Green, Essex.
Sergeant Eric Ostrowski, of the SNT said he hoped that thefts from lockers in the borough's leisure centres would decrease following the arrest.
