An oven cleaner had a plane crazy job when he agreed to clean a fighter jet’s engines.

Jonathan Chambers, of Croydon-based Magicleen, was called to clean the ovens of Mustafa Azim who lives in Wallington.

While talking, Mr Azim revealed he had bought a jet fighter plane and needed the engines cleaned.

Seeing Mr Chambers at work, and having done a great job with his oven, Mr Azim asked if he could clean the jet engines too.

Mr Chambers, who has been cleaning ovens for the past year, said: “It was a bit of an unusual one.

“Not knowing much about it I had to give it a lot of thought but decided why not – a jet engine is just like a big oven with a few moving parts.”

Having agreed on the bizarre task, Mr Chambers travelled with Mr Azim to the hanger to check out the MiG jet plane for himself.

The 46-year-old said: “I was gobsmacked when I saw the plane itself.

“Mr Azim told me how he also owns a Russian spy plane used to take photos.”

Afterwards Mr Azim was delighted with the job, having previously been quoted thousands of pounds for the job to be done by a jet engine specialist in Germany.

Mr Azim said: “I took him to see the fighter jet and he was not only able to do the job that he cleaned the engines to brand new.

“I was surprised and overwhelmed. He did a fantastic job with a true understanding of metalworking.”

While unlikely to add jet engine cleaner to his business cards, Mr Chamber s said he liked the change.

He added: “Ovens are my bread and butter but it’s nice to diversify.

“I’ve been asked to clean car parts before but I doubt there’ll be too many times when I’m asked to clean jet engines.”

Mr Azim bought the Czech-built jet plane for £6,995, using money he and his wife had saved for a Porsche.

The MiG 15 — part of Saddam Hussein's air force — last flew eight years ago and was imported by a fellow aircraft nut.
