Users of an elderly community care centre are back on the road with a new minibus after their old one failed to meet new pollution targets.

Solace Community Care Ltd, in Beechcroft Road, Tooting were unable to use their old bus because it did not comply with the Low Emissions Zone (LEZ) introduced this month.

Residents in the home aged 50 to 90-years-old were struggling to travel and have had to borrow cars when needed.

A new minibus was delivered to the charity worth £18, 000 on Friday, much to the relief of residents and carers.

It was presented to service users and vice chairman Narasha Patel by Tom Kennedy, owner of Teasdale Truck and Van Sales, based in Tolworth.

Mr Kennedy said: "All of the residents were in awe, they were really happy.

"One elderly gentleman said it was the fastest we have moved in years."

Musa Razvi, day care centre manager, said he was angry the Mayor of London offered little support to small organisations when the LEZ was launched.

He said: "I think there should have been a level of support by Boris and TFL for smaller organisations like us.

"If they think the work we are doing is viable they should give us more financial support."

The charity provides care for older people and for those with learning or physical disabilities, primarily in Asian communities.
