The most vulnerable children in the borough are set to have their lives transformed after a specialist project was awarded funding.

Brighter Futures, in Wandsworth, is expected to receive up to £900,000, with the aim of supporting children recovering from domestic violence.

The new support project was one of 17 awarded a grant by The Improving Futures Programme, which gave away a total of £15.2 million as part of The Big Lottery Fund (BIG)- the largest distributor of National Lottery good cause funding.

The money Brighter Futures receives will help improve the lives of an estimated 120 families over the next three years.

Naomi Eisenstadt, a parenting and child care expert said: “What’s exciting about Improving Futures is it’s looking at the whole family.”

“The children and families are going through problems that largely affect the adults but then play out in terms of the children- what this programme is trying to do is address both the adult issues but also how they impact on children.”

The BIG fund is committed to bringing improvements to communities and people most in need, and has awarded £4.4 billion to a vast range of causes since 2004.
