A pub has transformed itself from a struggling local to a family restaurant supporting St Raphael’s hospice.

In the fifth week of the Give Your Quid campaign, the Woodstock in Stonecot has gone into a partnership with St Raphael’s, pledging to support its fundraising efforts.

The partnership also coincides with the pubs re-launch as it tries to shed its "rough" reputation and become a family friendly restaurant.

The pub's manager, Brian O’Rourke, 38, from Crawley said the pub had received business from a lot of funerals of former patients at St Raphael’s.

He decided he wanted to give something back and spoke to the fundraisers at the Hospice.

He said: "I couldn’t believe all the work they do - especially the care at home; I thought that was very impressive."

As part of the re-launch Mr O'Rourke has put their large function room, which had been closed for five years, back into action.

He said St Raphael’s could use the room for their fundraisers completely free of charge and he added that it is also about support and backing.

The pub is already planning to have a music festival in the summer and a St Raphael’s rodeo is also on the cards.

Mr O'Rourke added: "If anybody in the community wants to come up with an idea for St Raphael’s - for example a 70’s night- we are happy to support."

The official re-launch took place on Friday February 17 when Mr Rourke opened the new restaurant, the Orange Rooms.

After nearly a two-year journey to reinvent itself, the family run pub now serves reasonably priced bistro and bar food.

They also hold zumba on a Tuesday and salsa on a Wednesday and are available parties and weddings.

Geoff Hills, community fundraiser at St Raphael's Hospice, said: "Brian has been very generous in offering the hall free of charge for any events that St Raphael's want to arrange plus he is hoping to organise community events in aid of the Hospice.

"We really appreciate the level of support from the Woodstock and look forward to working with him."
