Tennis courts in Raynes Park were transformed into a sea of green last week as 10,000 tennis balls were delivered to the site.

The balls which blanketed Joseph Hood Recreation Ground came courtesy of car maker Nissan, donated to national charity, Tennis For Free.

The charity said it strives to create vibrant tennis communities and said it will double the number of courts at which it offers free tennis coaching.

Its founder, comedian Tony Hawks, said: “Our mission is to develop vibrant, healthy and socially engaged communities of all ages and abilities who participate in playing and coaching tennis on a regular basis, utilising public park tennis courts in their community, for free."

“We’re incredibly grateful to Nissan for the donation of 10,000 tennis balls; it’s a significant contribution that has assisted us greatly in extending the reach of the programme to new communities.”
