A Croydon gym that was forced to close following a fire has reopened today.

Firefighters were called to Greens Health and Fitness Centre in the Colonnades, Purley Way, at about midnight on Monday.

An electrical fault is believed to have started the blaze, which caused the gym to be left without power and closed to customers for two days.

A message on the centre's website from manager Paul Keats said the gym opened as normal this morning and will close at the usual time of 10pm.

He said: "Our class timetable will resume from 3pm so all evening classes will be unaffected.

"Please be aware that for the next two days ventilation throughout the club will not be fully operational so some areas may feel a little stuffy or cold.

"However we are hopeful that by the weekend this will be resolved.

"Greens would like to thank members for their patience over the past two days."
