The murder of a teenager dubbed the "honey trap killing" has been made into a docu-film to be broadcast next week.

Shakilus Townsend of Tanners Hill, Deptford, was murdered after he was led into an ambush in a quiet cul-de-sac in Thornton Heath on July 3, 2008.

The 16-year-old was set upon by members of the Shine My Nine (SMN) gang, beaten with a baseball bat and repeatedly stabbed in Beulah Crescent, after he was led to his death by Samantha Joseph, then 15, who he thought of as his girlfriend.

Joseph from Brockley, acted as a "honey trap" in the plot, in an attempt to get back with her ex-boyfriend Danny McLean, then 18.

Joseph, McLean from Thornton Heath, and five other teenagers were found guilty of murdering Shakilus and were jailed for a minimum of 87 years in July 2009.

The programme titled 'My Murder,' is being aired on BBC Three as part of Criminal Britain, a season of programmes looking at how crime affects the lives of young people.

Writer Levi David Addai said he was inspired to write the film after hearing about the murder on the news.

He said: "Unlike most news reports at the time, this story of how a young guy went to meet the girl he was seeing only to be set up and killed, just stood out. I remember talking with a friend about the news and how shocked we were.

"Being set up and then killed is definitely not something that would cross your mind as a teenage boy, when seeing a girl that you hope to secure as your girlfriend.

"So to be approached about this story several years later did take me back, not only to when I heard the tragic story but to my own youth."

Added poignancy is brought to the story by the testimony of Shakilus' mother, Nicola. Witnesses said the teenager cried for his mother as he bled to death and said: "I don't want to die."

John Boyega who stars as Shakilus, said: "Playing a real person you don't want to mess it up, upset anyone or be too departed from the actual person.

"You are not looking to copy but to embody their likeness. Shakilus' mum worked closely with us and she gave me her blessing to do this."

'My Murder' will be shown on Monday March 26 on BBC Three at 9pm.
