As the race for London Mayor heats-up statistics show Sutton had the best turnout of any borough the last time around.

In the 2008 elections, 57.9 per cent of those eligible turned out to vote for the Mayor of London and the London Assembly.

Belmont was the second best of London’s 624 wards with a turnout of 65.7 per cent.

In contrast, the ward of St Helier only saw a turnout of 39 per cent - well below the London-wide figure of 45.3 per cent.

With just weeks to go to the 2012 London elections, London Elects is encouraging Sutton voters to make sure they have their say on May 3.

The Mayor and the London Assembly are responsible for issues which affect everyone ranging from transport and policing, to housing and the environment and with a budget of more than £14bn per year.
