A father who wants to tackle youth disorder in Streatham by building a boxing club is organising a walk to the House of Commons to raise funds.

Darren Hill, 40, of Streatham High Road, said was inspired to arrange the April 22 walk for Team Lambeth Boxing Club after watching last year’s riots.

He said: "It disgusted me that there were ten year olds on the streets rioting.

"I feel there needs to be more projects for kids.

"I'm always seeing kids hanging about on the street corners of Streatham.

"Anti-social behaviours quite high, a lot of anti-social behaviour is young kids.

"Seeing the riots spurred me on, I thought I’ve got do something now, I’ve got to stand up and make a difference."

The six mile walk, which he hopes 100 people will attend, will start outside the Waterfront Bar opposite Streatham Common, and Hill will be joined by ex WBU light middleweight boxing champion Wayne Alexander, as well as Croydon boxer Chas Symonds.

Having already raised £1,400 in the last two months, Hill says he needs to reach £20,000 to start the club in south Streatham, which will be free for children.

The father-of-three said he planned to involve the police in the boxing club as has been done in Birmingham. He said: "I want to get the local police to come and be boxing coaches.

"Between the youth and police nowadays there's a brick wall.

"If I can knock that brick wall down and we can integrate them all together I do believe the community will definitely benefit from that."
