A rising young dancer has won a role in the new film of Les Miserables in which she will appear alongside acclaimed Hollywood film stars.

Sophie Hutchinson,12, from Bookham, was among hundreds of hopefuls who auditioned for the role of Turning Girl, who has a solo line to sing in the production.

Based on the long running West End hit musical, the film will star Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway, and is scheduled for release in December 2012.

Sophie has already been to rehearsals at Pinewood Studios and starts filming in May. She has been a member of Leatherhead’s musical theatre and dance school, Dance Shack, for three years and her audition was one of the first to come through the school's new professional agency arm.

Clive Hutchinson, Sophie's father, said: "We are very pleased for her. This was her first audition so she has been successful very quickly.

"Sophie wants to do more in theatre and television and we hope this will go a long way in helping her into that.

"She is very excited about it and thrilled to get a role in a film with Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe."

Professional musical theatre actress Lucy Holloway, who runs Dance Shack, said: "I am absolutely thrilled for Sophie. She is a very hard-working girl who totally deserves this opportunity. I am proud of her and she is a great asset to Dance Shack."
