Following Wandsworth Council's decision to disband the borough's parks police, a team of Met officers began patrolling our green spaces this week.
A new Safer Parks Team comprising two sergeants and 10 constables took up their post today.
The new team will only be used to patrol local parks - they will not be available for other police duties in the borough and will only be called away if there was a serious "London-wide emergency".
The officers are all new recruits and the number of existing Met officers covering other policing duties in Wandsworth remains unchanged.
The new squad is being supported by five additional staff from the council’s former parks police service who have been retained for their local knowledge.
