Great food is all about fusing the best ingredients, so the partnership between the South End Food Festival and the Croydon Guardian’s new food website will set tastebuds tingling.

Launched as part of the Riot Recovery Project, South End Food Festival is designed to unite the area’s restaurateurs in promoting South End’s diverse dining identity.

Enlisting the support of top establishments such as Malcolm John’s Fish and Grill and Le Cassoulet as well as the multitude of independent eateries that make the area such a thrill for foodies, the event will see a section of the street, between Spicer’s Yard and Aberdeen Road, closed to traffic between 8am and 6pm on Sunday April 15.

Linda Arthur, secretary of South Croydon Business Association and owner of Bar Txt, in South End, said: "The South Croydon Food Festival is the biggest and boldest event that this area has ever undertaken and will really mark the start of new and exciting times for Croydon’s restaurant quarter."

A live demo kitchen will be running throughout the day, with guest cooks demonstrating their skill, while live music and street entertainers will bring a festival atmosphere.

Offers already available include 25 per cent off at Albert’s Table, a book of vouchers available for customers at Bar TXT, a free bottle of house wine for diners at Vael-N-Dine and meal deals at both Fish and Grill and Le Cassoulet.

Other South End businesses involved include Half and Half, La Spezia Deli, Treehouse, Khyber, Albert’s Table, Bagatti’s, Conchitas, Apatura, and Circuit Cars.

Mrs Arthur said: "All of the businesses and local residents are really looking forward to the day which is going to feature fantastic food and drinks and great local entertainment."

To celebrate the announcement The Croydon Guardian Food section, launched earlier this year, is proud to be named as the festival’s media partner.

The website, which is full of restaurant reviews, food news and recipes will be the first point of call for all festival updates alongside special vouchers for the day’s events.

Assistant editor Matthew Knowles said: "I am genuinely excited to get involved as I love Croydon’s vibrant restaurant scene."
