Police are hunting a prowler who disables alarms and CCTV cameras when trying to burgle houses in Wimbledon Village.

Merton Police were called on Thursday, January 12, to a house in Arthur Road after the suspect used a small ladder to climb over a fence.

He then cut the cables to the property’s CCTV cameras and tried to enter through the rear doors before fleeing the scene.

The same person, who drives around in a Vauxhall - either an Astra or Corsa - is believed to have used the same method several times to get into another house in Church Road.

On Friday, March 16, he struck again by cutting the cabling for the perimeter alarm in the rear garden at a home in Parkside, opposite Wimbledon Common, home to some of London’s most expensive mansions.

Several days before that, he had tried a similar tactic at the house next door in Parkside, where he had cut the cable for its exterior CCTV camera.

Anyone with information should call Detective Constable Simon Callcott at Merton police on 020 8649 4044 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
