A surgeon has received a silver scalpel award which recognises inspirational surgical consultants who go the extra mile to help trainees.
Consultant colorectal surgeon at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust, Humphrey Scott, received the award out of 29 nominations for trainers working in hospitals across the UK.
Doctor Rachel O’Connell was one of several junior doctors who nominated Mr Scott for the award.
She said: “We really felt that Mr Scott deserved this award as he works tirelessly at Ashford and St Peter’s to provide an excellent service for his patients, many of whom have very complex colorectal problems.
“As a junior doctor working within the colorectal firm I have learnt a huge amount from observing him in clinics and on ward rounds.”
Mr Scott said: “The award ceremony was a bit like the Oscars with over 600 people attending and the winner’s name hidden in a special envelope.
“It was a very special moment for me but the award is not just reflective of my efforts – it’s about the whole team at Ashford and St Peter’s and our dedication to providing excellent training.”
