Eighty bidders are currently being considered for a share of £750,000 of funding for community projects.
The Community Improvements Fund was set up by Surrey County Council leader Councillor David Hodge to improve the quality of local areas, and so far more than 80 community groups have applied asking for between £10,000 and £50,000.
Applications received so far include a sports club looking to upgrade its facilities, a church seeking to build a hall for community events, and locals who want to transform a neglected pond.
Coun Hodge said: “Even a small amount of cash can make a big difference in local communities and I’m looking forward to seeing groups get projects off the ground that will be of lasting benefit to residents.”
Successful groups will be notified next month as a panel of councillors, along with Coun Hodge, decide on the first round.
