A Croydon cafe has been crowned home of the best builder's breakfast in London.

Fatboy's Cafe in Thornton Road, Thornton Heath, won the title in a competition run by kitchen and joinery specialists Magnet Trade.

The cafe is also home to The Blowout Breakfast, a 4,500 calorie beast containing a packet of bacon, two jumbo sausages, two eggs, tins of beans, mushrooms, tomatoes and a slice of fried bread.

Nicknamed 'heart-attack-on-a-plate', The Blowout is the brainchild of cafe owner, Farouk Hassanein.

Since January, Britain's builders have been asked what their favourite breakfast is and who served it.

Cafe's all over the country were asked to participate, encouraging their customers to enter their vote.

Fatboy's full English which is the cafe's most popular breakfast, saw off competition from across the capital to claim the title.

Mr Hassanein said: "We are delighted to win the title of Magnet Trade's best builder's breakfast for London.

"We hope to continue to provide our local builders with the best breakfast around."

In recognition of the achievement the cafe were presented with a certificate and given a cheque for £500.

Pat McPherson who has worked at the cafe for 15 years, said: "The breakfast here is very good, we have our regulars but also have new tradesmen coming in.

"When we found out we had won we were quite astounded really."
