A homeware recycling warehouse was shocked to be visited by a camera crew and a team of Apprentices as the famous BBC show came to town.

Noordin Halai, known as Ghandy, made a surprise TV appearance on last week's episode of The Apprentice after a team of the show’s hopefuls dropped into his Cherry Orchard Road store in search of bargains.

Mr Halai, whose store The Recycling Centre specialises in removing unwanted furniture from homes during moves following a death, or prior to demolition, was very unimpressed as the apprentices picked a selection of battered furniture and a set of books.

He said: “I’d got a call because they’d heard about my store through a friend of mine who is based in Wimbledon.

“I think they had been told they couldn’t ask for help, but they didn’t have a clue. Most of the stuff they wanted wasn’t worth the scrap material.”

After haggling the team down to £30 for the lot, Mr Halai got his time in the limelight, delivering his verdict on the team’s performance.

However, his negative feelings were proven wrong as the team stormed to victory and avoided a tense time in the boardroom with Lord Sugar.

Using Mr Halai’s goods the team went on to make a profit of more than £1,000 selling items out of a small retail unit in Brick Lane.
