Croydon crooner Cassius Henry has thanked fans for their votes after sailing through to the next stage of BBC show The Voice.
The 32-year-old singer was eager to show he could sing more than R&B on Saturday's night's and performed his own version of Coldplay's hit Paradise.
The decision paid off and he became the first of Jessie J's four acts to make it through to the next round.
He said: "My name was called first and I was like 'wow,' it was like a dream. The cold and laryngitis did affect me but I just tried to sing it the best way I could.
"I don't think I had 100 percent control over my vocals, but the way my voice was feeling I am proud of my performance."
The former Selhurst College pupil who lives in South Norwood, said he was thrilled with the judge's feedback.
He added he was particularly touched by Jessie's comments about the pair's mutual respect for one another.
The London Underground worker, who has taken time off to dedicate himself to the competition, will perform with Team Jessie next week, before performing two songs including one with his mentor, the week after.
Cassius added: "I just want to say thanks to everyone who has supported me. It feels good to know the public are on my side and that they are behind me."
