The Mitcham Carnival will have a royal theme this year to celebrate the Queen’s diamond jubilee.

The carnival will be transformed to reflect a theme of Elizabeth to Elizabeth on Saturday, June 2, marking the Queen’s 60-year reign.

A parade, led by the mayor of Merton, will set off from Figges Marsh at 12.30pm finishing at Three Kings Piece, Commonside West, in Mitcham at 1pm.

Families will be able to enjoy displays from Knights of the Damned, a jousting stunt team, fun fair, mascot race and music by Fanny and the Electric Band as well as browse dozens of stalls.

Councillor Martin Whelton, cabinet member for community and culture, said: “I would urge people wishing to have a stall at the carnival to book early.

“As part of the jubilee theme, there will be a range of different activities for people of all ages to take part in.

"We hope the community comes along to support Merton’s diamond jubilee celebrations in this momentous year.”
