A tree has fallen crushing a bus stop and a car in Hackbridge.

The London Fire Brigade were called out this morning to a large tree which had landed right in front of the front door of a house.

London Road southbound is closed and the 151 bus is on diversion. There may also be delays with other buses.

Trainee Fire Fighter, Slevin said: “We were called to a tree in a precarious position.

“Police are there now and an ambulance – no-one was hurt.

“I think it was a miracle no-one was hurt.”

A witness said: “The tree is on the corner of Hackbridge Road and London Road and there’s a cordon there.

“People can’t walk through to the station – they are having to walk through the industrial estate.

“The other side of the cordon is before you get to the station.

“There is a bus shelter that’s been crushed by the tree.

“They’re sawing the tree up into small bits to get rid of it – there is an ambulance but it’s not in any emergency state.

“It might be a horse chestnut – it’s a big tree.”

Another witness, Jeannie Arnold said: "When I walked over the bridge towards Hackbridge Primary with my six year daughter, Katie, she became very upset.

"Thankfully, the headmistress, Mrs Fairhurst had organised her staff to give directions to parents and to make sure all the children - especially those old enough to come to school on their own - walked safely along the road in the industrial estate along side the traffic.

"Seeing the familiar faces of the staff reassured my daughter that the incident did not affect her school.

"Well done to the team at Hackbridge Primary. Did you see what happened?
