Hamper prizes are up for grabs for residents who recycle their food waste.

From Monday, May 14, until June 8, 20 Elmbridge homes can win a hamper prize courtesy of the council and Waitrose stores.

People who put their food waste out to recycle will be in with a chance of winning a hamper each day for four weeks.

A randomly selected home that is recycling food waste will receive a winner’s ticket through their door which will enable them to claim their hamper. The initiative aims to get more residents in the habit of recycling food because research shows that Elmbridge households still put an average of 8kg of food waste in their rubbish bin each month.

A spokesman for the council’s environmental care team said: “This is a really exciting competition – we want to encourage even more people to use this great service which is very easy to use, will benefit the environment and help to save everyone money.

“We’re really grateful to the Waitrose stores in Esher, Cobham, Hersham and Weybridge for donating these fantastic hampers and supporting this environmental initiative.”
