An action-packed Olympics day held by parents, teachers and pupils, celebrated the upcoming Games.

A host of sporting events on May 4 embraced the international identity of ACS Cobham International School.

They were kicked off by an Olympic opening ceremony, complete with Olympic mascots to get everyone in the sporting mood.

Guests on the day included Dominic Raab, MP for Esher and Walton, and the mayor of Elmbridge, Councillor John Sheldon.

There was also an international flag parade led by student Stephen Kirchner, aged 18, who has been nominated to represent Cobham in the official Olympic Torch relay on Friday, July 20, in recognition of his battle against leukaemia in 2008.

Students competed in various track and field sports and received expert coaching from former Olympians including two-time Olympic pole vault competitor Nick Buckfield.

Emma Wiggs, current GB captain of sitting volleyball, also gave an inspirational talk about her road to becoming a paralympian.

Organiser Sarah Shaw said: “London 2012 is going to be such an exciting event, and our Olympic day was a fantastic occasion, letting the whole of the ACS Cobham community come together and enjoy a day of sport.”
