Team GB head coach Jason Lee has confirmed Surbiton’s Matt Daly remains in contention for Olympic selection after delaying the date of the final squad announcement to give him time to prove his fitness.
The 28-year-old has suffered a succession of hamstring and cruciate knee ligament problems over the past two years and has not featured for Team GB since the EuroHockey Nations Championships finals last year.
Lee revealed Daly would be given every chance to prove his fitness, with the team set to head to Malaysia for the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup later this month and Olympic selection likely to be in mid-June.
Surbiton’s James Tindall and Rob Moore struck as GB beat India 2-1 on Sunday to claim a bronze medal in the Visa International Invitational Olympic Test event in Stratford.
Tindall admitted the rest of the squad could not afford to fear for their own fitness.
“If you don’t give it 100 per cent you are more likely to get hurt. You have to go flat out because you know there will be an Aussie somewhere putting 100 per cent in,” he said.
