Sixty-two street parties will take place in Merton in celebration of the Queen’s diamond jubilee.

The biggest number of street parties will take place on June 3 and 4 as the Queen celebrates 60 years on the throne, but parties will be taking place from June 1 to June 10.

Of the 62 applications received, the majority of street parties will take place in SW19.

Stephen Alambritis, leader of Merton Council, said: “We have exceeded 60 applications and officers have worked hard to process them with as little red tape standing in the way as is possible.

“I recall the street parties of years past and I know these will be as exciting.

“The diamond jubilee is a truly special occasion and I hope everyone across Merton will enjoy the celebrations.”

The deadline for submitting street party applications to the council passed on May 2.

If you are having a street party let us know. We will be providing extensive coverage in the newspaper and on our website. We want to include photographs of as many parties as possible. Email newsdesk@wimbledonguardian.co.uk. so we can ensure we do not miss you out.
