A large branch fell onto a busy Southfields road causing traffic delays this morning.
Concerned residents called the newsroom after the branch was blown down by winds last night onto Merton Road, near the junction with Replingham Road.
The limb lay in the road's bus lane for several hours and this morning had slowed traffic until a sensible passer-by moved it.
A resident, who did not want to be named, said: "The reason the branch fell down is because the authorities trimmed the trees on one side of the road.
"This means the remaining trees are less protected and more susceptible to breaking. It is lucky a pedestrian wasn't hit or worse a bus or car. Someone could have died."
