The team behind The Gruffalo are back again with another tall tale based on a book by best-selling children’s author Julia Donaldson.

The Snail and the Whale tells the story of a loveable gastropod who grabs a ride on a humpback’s tail, rubbing shoulders with sharks, penguins, icebergs and volcanoes on their amazing journey.

Described by former Prime Minister Gordon Brown as his one of his favourite children’s tales, but usually loved by four-year-olds and up, the story, illustrated by Axel Sheffler, has been turned into a play for the stage.

Bentalls’ Childrensworld are giving each child a free cupcake, drink and the chance to meet some over-size insects after the 1.30pm show on Wednesday, May 23, with a chance to meet giant African land snails, a gecko, a tortoise, a giant millipede and other bugs.

The Snail and the Whale, Rose Theatre, 24-26 High Street, Kingston, May 22-25, £9 to £12, call 08444 821556 or visit rosetheatrekingston.org.
