Wandsworth's two The Voice contestants sailed through the latest round of the BBC talent show.

Teacher Jaz Elington, from Battersea, and former St Cecilia's student Ruth Brown were both put through by the public after two more stunning performances on Saturday's show.

The remaining 16 contestants were told one act belonging to each of the four judges, Sir Tom Jones, Black Eyed Peas singer Will.I.Am, The Script's Danny O'Donoghue and singer Jessie J, would be put through by the public vote.

Each then had to nominate another act to join the other four selected by the public, meaning half the contestants were dispatched in the last two weeks.

But, despite the tension, Mr Elllington and Ms Brown eased into the semi-final as both were chosen by the viewers to represent their respective mentors.

The 27-year-old, who teaches at Burntwood School, in Earlsfield, serenaded his pregnant wife Kirsten who is expecting the couple's first baby in July, by singing Billy Joel's Just The Way You Are.

The tear-jerking performance, preceded by an emotional clip of Jaz dedicating the song to his unborn baby and wife, reduced the audience and the judges panel to a blubbing mess.

Will.I.Am said: "I'm not surprised at all, Jaz is a superb singer".

Ms Brown, 20, from West Norwood, also moved her mentor Sir Tom to tears on Saturday when she sang Emili Sande's heartbreaker Next To Me.

The emotional knight of the realm said after her performance: "When I hear Ruth sing I get choked up."
