Mary Cohen has been named in Great Britain’s women’s epee team for the European Championships in Italy in June as she bids for an Olympic place.

The fencer from Wandsworth had all but given up hope of being included in the team, having slipped down the UK rankings, but a 15th place finish at the World Cup in Rio de Janeiro earlier this month put her back in contention.

Any host nation individual spot for the Games is to go to British No 1, Corinna Lawrence, but, with Cohen’s performance in Brazil set to move her up to second in the UK, she could be named in the epee team announced on May 28.
