Darius Knight’s hopes of being named in the Great Britain Olympic table tennis squad on Tuesday look slim after no British player qualified by right.

Paul Drinkhall, Liam Pitchford and Andrew Baggaley were picked ahead of Knight, above, to go to the final World Olympic Qualification tournament in Doha last week but failed to make it into the 10 placings, which would have guaranteed a place at the Games.

It means Britain will have only one host nation place in the singles draw – likely to be Pitchford – while Knight’s main hope of inclusion will be in the three-man men’s team.

But he was left out of the squad for the World Team Table Table Championships earlier this year so his best hope may be to be named as a reserve.
