American cinema brand Showcase Cinema de Lux is being lined up as part of the £50m leisure extension at Centrale shopping centre.

The 1,900-seat, 11-screen cinema is central to the development which will also see eight restaurants built as part of a walk through food court and two flagship retail stores.

Plans for the development go before Croydon Council tomorrow, May 17.

National Amusements has over 950 movie screens in the US, UK and Latin America and operates under its Showcase, Multiplex and Showcase Cinema de Lux brands, including cinemas at Bluewater in Kent.

Lawrence Hutchings, Hammerson Managing Director UK Retail, said: “This is fantastic news for Centrale and to secure the first National Amusements’ cinema for London is a testament to the strength of Croydon’s retail potential.

The new brand will deliver an unparalleled entertainment experience for our visitors, delivering the very latest blockbuster films in surroundings that complement the new leisure offer for Centrale.”
