A police special constable has been convicted of launching a racist rant at rail staff in a row over fare-dodging.
Luke Smith of Carey Gardens, Wandsworth, was off-duty when he abused the 48-year-old man on a train between Gatwick and East Croydon on October 5, last year.
The 27-year-old was found guilty at Croydon Magistrates Court of a racially aggravated public order offence on Wednesday.
He was found not guilty of fare evasion.
Smith who works in Westminster, was fined £300 for the offence. He was also ordered to pay court costs of £685 and a victim surcharge of £15.
He will also pay £100 compensation to the victim and to another member of rail staff on board the service at the time of the incident.
Smith remains suspended from work.
Commander Peter Spindler, Director of Professional Standards, said: "This type of appalling behaviour will not be tolerated on or off duty from any member of our staff.
"We are referring this matter to the misconduct unit for further action against the officer."
