Hundreds of people turned up to a Tooting coffee morning last Friday to find out about community services.

The event was hosted in the Mushkil Aasaan Community Centre, in Upper Tooting Road, and brought together 20 organisations who had been invited by MP Sadiq Khan.

About 200 visitors were given information on health advice, legal help and free smoke alarms, with a focus placed on services for older residents.

Tasneem Mohammadali and Martha McGill from Macmillan Cancer Care gave advice to residents, while Lorraine Colnaghi and Nizam Chowdhury spoke about Wandsworth Age UK.

There were information stands from the Alzheimer's Society, South West London Law Centre and Wandsworth's Older People's Forum.

Attendees were given advice by Mr Khan, and also met the new mayor of Wandsworth, Councillor Adrian Knowles.

Ward councillors were on hand to discuss concerns.

Mr Khan said: "This was a fantastic coffee morning, the most successful yet. I was really pleased to see so many local residents turn out to meet with the organisations I’d invited to attend.

"The advice and information available at the event can change and even save lives, so I was really pleased to see so many pass through to pick up leaflets and talk to the dozens of experts available on the day.

"As the local MP it’s really important to me to make sure people know what help there is available to them, whether that’s free legal advice, sheltered housing, specialist healthcare support or home improvement and energy grants."
