Rydens Enterprise School has had its first inspection report since moving to academy status.

The Walton school was one of three in Surrey selected for a pilot Ofsted inspection, with less than a day’s notice given.

The two-day inspection included 49 lessons and inspectors spoke to pupils individually or interviewed others in three mixed groups.

Headteacher Nikki Knight took over in 2010 and in that time the school has moved to academy status, changed teaching practices and tackles low attendance rates in a minority of pupils.

A school spokesman said: “We are starting to see the impact on our current students and the inspection team recognised that our carefully planned development plan is effective and the strengths that leaders, governors and managers at all levels are bringing to development needs a little longer to be embedded.

“The team agreed with our own self evaluation of where we are as a school and recognised the strong drive to raise standards and the capacity across the school to reach good in the very near future.

“The satisfactory judgement is a fair reflection of the progress the students have made over the past three years under the criteria of the new Ofsted inspection schedule introduced in January 2012.”
