A summer of music, comedy and theatre will begin next month as Abbeyfest 2012 kicks off in Merton.

The festival, which will run from July 6 to August 27, will feature free jazz concerts, late night comedy and concerts culminating with Kidsfest on August 27.

Launched in 1998, the festival has become one of South West London’s longest arts festivals showcasing new, aspiring and established acts from the world of comedy, theatre and music. Throughout the festival expect comedy acts from Dana Alexander, as seen on Russell Howards Good News, Benny Boot, who performed his solo show for the first time at the Edinburgh Fringe festival last year, and Andrew Lawrence, a regular on Channel 4s stand up for the week.

Blues acts include John Patto, Buffalo Bill, James Ingham and Friends, and acoustic ensemble Blue Religion while jazz artists on the bill include Kim Chandler, who has in the past performed with the Bee Gees, Michael Bolton, Neil Diamond and Natalie Cole.

If classical music is more your flavour, you can enjoy and evening with pianist Neil Crossland who will be performing some of Beethoven’s most famous sonatas.

There will also be a free Olympic Celebration held at Merton Abbey Mills when the Olympic torch passes through Merton on July 23 where visitors can expect a bandstand with DJ, activities for children and food stalls.
