A green flag marking excellence in environmental education will be raised over Monks Orchard Primary school tomorrow.

The school in The Glade, has become the second school in the borough to be awarded the green flag.

The school's eco-warriors have led fellow pupils, teachers and parents through a series of environmental project.

Pupils dedication impressed the eco-schools inspector sufficiently for the school to be award the flag.

Monks Orchard's eco-committees have promoted regular litter-picks, carried out gardening and conservation projects and ensured as much rubbish as possible is recycled.

They have also cut down on energy usage and worked to promote healthy living.

Headteacher Margaret Mission, said: "I want to pass on my sincere congratulations to all of my pupils and staff for their perseverance and hard work.

"I am delighted out school has been awarded the Eco-schools 'Green Flag' as this really shows recognition for our commitment to tackling key environmental issues."

Councillor Tim Pollard, cabinet member for children, young people and learning, said: "It’s hugely important that schools deliver these sorts of messages to their pupils so that the next generation of our society fully understands their environmental responsibilities."
