Cobham Free School has completed the formal steps needed to open its doors to pupils this September.

The funding agreement between Cobham Free School Trust and the Secretary of State for Education had now been signed.

The state-funded, non fee-paying, independent primary school will open in September 2012 and will be the first Free School in Surrey.

It will be situated in Cobham’s former police station in Portsmouth Road.

Headteacher Michaela Khatib said: “It’s taken over a year of very hard work by our team and we are absolutely delighted that we have now completed the final stage of the formal process.

“We are looking forward to welcoming our new pupils in September and are very busy preparing to ensure we offer the very best educational provision.

“Our launch in September will be a very special day for everyone.”

A school spokesman said a highly-experienced and qualified staff team has been recruited and teachers have been busy with their induction programme.

The school will open with reception, year 1 and year 2 pupils and expand upwards to reach capacity with year 6 in the future.

A few places are still available for years 1 and 2 for September.
