Two teenagers tried to rob a 76-year-old woman moments after she had withdrawn a large sum of cash from the bank yesterday afternoon.
But the would-be robbers were stopped in their tracks in Streatham High Road by two members of the public after the frail pensioner fell to the ground.
Shortly after the incident at 2pm, the woman, who suffered minor injuries, managed to stumble into nearby Caffe Nero.
Cafe manager Agatha Biatek said: “She came inside and got some plasters. She was shaken up- she was in a bit of shock. Her son came inside and he was looking after her.”
Police have arrested an 18-year-old boy from Upper Tulse Hill and a 15-year-old boy from New Addington. They remain in custody at a south London police station.
