Schools celebrated some speedy success at a spectacular kit car race last week.

Hinchley Wood School was the proud winner of the race, in an event organised by Surrey County Council, while Esher High finished in fifth after technical difficulties.

Mrs Williamson, head of design and technology at Esher High School, said: “Our motor blew up just before the start of the race, we started about seven minutes late and our technician did a sterling job of fixing the motor last minute.”

A team of about eight students from each school worked with a design technician to create and drive the kit cars.

As part of the P&G Surrey School Games, running for 150 days of sport and art, schools across the county will continue to compete in over 50 other sporting events.

Mrs Williamson said: “It was brilliant. The kids really enjoyed it, so did the staff.”
