A police operation organised in response to residents’ concerns about speeding nabbed an array of antisocial drivers.

Neighbourhood officers took the Drive Smart campaign to Hurst Road in West Molesey on June 20, after complaints about the speed of cars in the road.

During the course of the day officers issued eight fixed penalty notices for speeding and one for driving without wearing a seatbelt.

Another driver was issued a court summons for speeding and having tyres which were not roadworthy.

Officers also gave five drivers were given educational interventions about their driving.

Richard Platt, PCSO for Elmbridge’s roads, said: “The operation ran very smoothly and it was a good opportunity for officers to take proactive steps to address the antisocial use of motor vehicles in the borough.

“I hope this proactive operation will reassure residents that we take their concerns very seriously and will take strong, positive action to address any ongoing problems or issues.”

The Drive Smart campaign targets tailgating, bad or inconsiderate parking, mobile phone use behind the wheel, speeding, drink driving, not wearing a seatbelt and reckless driving.
