Fans of iconic cop drama The Bill will be able sneak a glimpse behind the scenes for the first time later this year - led by a former cast member.

The sets of Sunhill police station, based at Wimbledon Studios, will be opened to the public for a limited time in September and October.

While the studio is remaining tight lipped on who it might be, a former cast member will be guiding fans on the tour for a behind-the-scenes look at the home of The Bill.

Fans will also be able to hear about life on the set of The Bill directly from the source and have access to the previously unseen ‘Bill Shrine’ - a collection of photographs, signed scripts and paraphernalia from the show.

In 2010 The Bill was decommissioned after 27 years on the air, but the Sunhill sets remain intact at Wimbledon Studios.

So convincing is the exterior entrance set of Sunhill, which backs onto a public road, that uniformed police officers have been known to knock on its door asking to speak with staff and others have turned up to report a crimes.

Tours of the sets, which includes a prison, crime scene investigation lab, interview rooms and more will be open to the public during weekends from September 22 to October 28.
