Firefighters were called to a blaze this morning which left a takeaway damaged.

They were called to the fire in Tasty Jerk Chicken, Whitehorse Road, Woodside, at 12.44am.

There were two fires in the restaurant's ventilation system, which took about 10 minutes to put out.

A passer-by alerted crews after spotting smoke coming from the building.

The shop was closed at the time and nobody was injured.

About 40 per cent of the building was wrecked in the fire.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: "When we got to it there was a fire coming from the ventilation shaft.

"It was heavily smoke logged inside."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
