Biker beaten and robbed in Warlingham by scooter riders

A man has been robbed of his motorbike after being chased and beaten by two men on scooters.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 40’s, was followed through traffic from West Wickham to Warlingham by the men on a black scooter, where he was attacked in Hamsey Green Gardens as he tried to escape on Thursday July 19.

The men demanded the keys to his bike then hit him on the back of the head. When he continued to refuse they wheeled the vehicle away.

Surrey Police are appealing for help in finding the men.

The rider of the scooter is described as a black man, of medium build, around 5ft 8ins and had a black bandana across his nose and mouth. His passenger is white, of medium build, around 5ft 8ins. Both men were wearing dark full face helmets and dark coloured tracksuits.

The victim was driving along the A2022, Addington Road, on his way to Warlingham to visit a friend when he first noticed a black scooter following him.

As he drove through the roundabout at Lodge Lane he noticed one of them shouting at him, but couldn’t hear them and continued on.

At about 5.40pm he turned into Hamsey Green Gardens, the scooter pulled up alongside and they tried to grab the keys before launching the attack as he ran for safety.

Detective Constable Portia Andrews said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim who was clearly targeted by the offenders for his motorcycle.

“I would appeal to anyone who saw the actual theft take place or who witnessed the events leading up to it when the motorcyclist was being pursued through traffic on his way into Warlingham especially when both vehicles stopped at the roundabout on the A2022 at the Lodge Lane junction.

Anyone with information should contact Surrey Police on 101 quoting reference TD/12/3239 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Why does it take 9 days for the police to appeal for witnesses?
most people won't remember what they had for dinner on Thursday 19th, let alone a scooter following a motorcycle.
Surely the police, can take a statment and appeal for witnesses within a couple of hours?

Less paperwork that way! - the longer you leave it the more people forget..... Less information = less paperwork! Simple!

Black scooter? There are a number of anti-social riders going through Addington Road in Selsdon on black scooters. However, the description of the rider doesn't tally with any we have seen. Selsdon has a real scooter problem at the moment.

Must be that new street lingo many of the local kids use - You know, the one that makes them sound thick and prevents any boss with common sense from employing them!.... innit doe!

Tragic but true.

Does not surprise me in the least, I remember seeing something similar on television when the infamous Croydon riots took place, a motor cyclist being chased and dragged off his bike, it was beamed around the world at the time so a lot of people would have seen it.
