Wimbledon's Laura Robson has admitted the SW19 crowd has got Olympic fever and she loves it.

The 18-year-old, who had to contend with fanss chanting her name in between points, crashed 6-7 3-6 to third seed Maria Sharapova in front of partisan British support on centre court.

Robson has always had good support at the Wimbledon Championships as a home favourite, but she admitted the London 2012 Games crowd was a different thing altogether.

"I enjoy the support and chanting of my name.  It is a little self indulgent," she said.

"It was definitely louder than what I'm used to.

“I don't know whether it was because the rood was on or not, but it is definitely a different crowd, but a good crowd."

Robson showed flashes of brilliance and led the first set tie break 3-1 before succumbing to Sharapova’s booming returns.

She then trailed 3-1 in the second set, but got back on serve at 4-3, before a sloppy service game handed the initiative back to her rival - who had no problem serving out for the win.

Robson, who sported Union Flag finger nails on centre court, is back in action in SW19 when she teams up with British number one Andy Murray in the mixed doubles.

And she knows where she needs to improve if they are to be a force.

"She is the French Open champion and is in good form, but I had chances I didn't take, which is definitely disappointing," she added.

"It is tough playing against someone like that because you have to go so much for your serve otherwise she is just going to start ripping returns.

"Maybe I could have gone a little bit less on my second serve, but she definitely puts you under pressure.

"I've still got the mixed doubles to look forward.  Hopefully I can serve a little bit better."
