Tia Sharp’s step-grandad Stuart Hazell has been arrested on suspicion of murder, after being spotted by a member of the public in Merton.
The 37-year-old was wanted by police after a body was found in the New Addington home he shares with Tia’s grandmother, Christine Sharp.
Mr Hazell is being questioned by police at a south London police station, after being arrested at around 8.27pm.
The arrest comes after police said they were looking for Mr Hazell as part a murder inquiry.
The 12-year-old went missing last Friday and a major police operation was launched to find the missing schoolgirl.
Authorities had warned the public not to approach Hazell.
The body found at the house has yet to be formally identified.
